Original Manila Shawl from the Isabelline era (mid-19th century). This high-quality textile piece represents the excellence of Spanish and Philippine craftsmanship of the time, characterized by superior technical delicacy and the use of lightweight silk.
History of the object: Isabelline era shawls are collector's items valued for their fineness. Unlike contemporary versions, these pieces were high-society accessories, notable for their entirely hand-embroidered silk-on-silk work, with motifs that fuse Oriental aesthetics with European tradition.
Technical details: - Period: 19th Century (Isabelline Era). - Technique: Double-sided hand embroidery (reversible, no visible knots). - Dimensions: 160 cm x 160 cm (63 x 63 inches) excluding fringes. - Fringes: 30 cm (11.8 inches) in length, made with manual macramé technique. - Weight: 390 g (13.7 oz). - Material: 100% Natural silk. - Motifs: Scenes of Chinese daily life (Chinoiserie) in two corners and botanical floral motifs in the other two.
