Bronze and metal

Antique bronze and metal objects: hardware, bells and desk accessories

Bronze, brass and other metal pieces: drawer pulls and handles, curtain rod brackets, door knockers, table bells, candlesticks, inkwells, letter openers, desk boxes and small figures such as greyhounds. Many come in matching sets from French, Spanish and other European furniture. The listing says if the piece is solid or plated, and gives the dimensions and the number of pieces.

What to check in metalwork

• Sets: count the pieces if you need to equip a whole piece of furniture.
• Fixings: the distance between screw holes and the thread are given when known, so please measure your furniture first.
• Patina: age darkens bronze and brass naturally. We describe the finish as it is and do not over-polish.
• Weight: solid bronze is heavy, which affects shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Should I polish old bronze?

Gentle cleaning is usually enough. Strong polishing removes the patina, which many collectors value, and can lower the character of the piece.

Will the handles fit my furniture?

Measure the distance between the existing screw holes and compare it with the listing. If it is not stated, ask us.
