Decorative plates

Decorative plates: wall plates, collector series and antique porcelain

This is one of the largest sections of the shop. It includes Spanish hand-painted wall plates from Seville and other workshops with 24k gold decoration, English ironstone such as Johnson Brothers Romantic England, collector series by Villeroy & Boch and Royal Doulton, Limoges and German porcelain, Chinese famille rose plates and 19th-century majolica. Many were made for display rather than daily use.

Details worth checking

• Diameter, given in centimetres or inches in the listing. Plates with a hole or wire for hanging say so.
• Rim: chips and hairlines usually appear first at the edge, and gold bands wear with time.
• Series plates: the listing mentions the series, the number and whether the original box or certificate is included.
• Back marks: factory marks, signatures and numbers are photographed when present.

Shipping from Spain

Plates travel by tracked courier after 1–3 business days of preparation. The shipping cost is calculated at checkout from weight and destination, so combining several plates in one parcel is often cheaper than separate orders. See the delivery policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I eat from a decorative plate?

We do not recommend it. Gold decoration, enamel and old glazes are not intended for food contact or for the dishwasher, and the pieces are sold as collectibles.

How do I hang a plate on the wall?

Use a plate hanger or a plate stand, which are inexpensive and available in most hardware stores. Check the listing for an included hanger.
