How to assess old glass

• Edges and bases: run a finger gently around rims and feet, or look at the photographs for chips.
• Surface: scratches and cloudiness show in light. Iridescence on carnival glass can wear.
• Seams and marks: pressed glass shows mould seams, which are normal.
• Dimensions: height and diameter are given in centimetres.
