Sugar bowl with lid made of translucent green uranium glass. This item is a representative example of mid-20th-century pressed glass production, characterized by its reactivity to ultraviolet light.

Object History: Uranium glass, also known as Vaseline Glass in its yellower variants, gained great popularity in the first half of the 20th century. The inclusion of small amounts of uranium oxide in the glass mixture provides that vibrant green color that emits intense neon green fluorescence under UV light. After World War II, the use of uranium for civilian purposes was severely restricted, making these pieces limited collector's items.
