Enamelled ceramic trivet (dessous-de-plat) from the renowned French manufacture Emaux de Longwy. This functional and decorative piece features a polychrome illustration of a bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) perched on a flowering branch, executed with the technical mastery characteristic of the firm.

Object History: Founded in 1798 in a former abbey, the Longwy manufacture is world-famous for its technique of cloisonné enamels (émaux cernés), where the outlines of the drawing are traced in black to contain the enamel colors. This technique, which reached its peak in the Art Deco period, is maintained in this mid-century piece as an example of French ceramic refinement.
