An antique textile-covered oval boudoir box, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. This exquisite piece showcases the refined craftsmanship of historic European passementerie and vanity accessories.

History of the item: During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, fabric-covered vanity boxes were essential components of a lady's dressing table. Often produced in France, these caskets were hand-decorated with expensive silks, metallic trims, and intricate lace, serving to store gloves, jewelry, or scented handkerchiefs.

Features and details:
- Period: Late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1890–1910)
- Technique / Style: Handmade textile application with metallic passementerie, net overlay, and ribbed gimp fringe. The underside is finished with embossed gold paper.
- Size: Length: 19 cm (7.5 inches), Width: 12 cm (4.7 inches), Height: 5 cm (2.0 inches)
- Material: Silk, cotton, cardboard structure, embossed gold paper, metallic wire thread.
- Condition: Antique state with age-appropriate wear. The exterior olive green silk, top net overlay, and embossed gold paper base remain structurally sound. The heavy bronze-toned metallic fringe shows minor oxidation. Internally, the pink cotton lining with a chevron weave is fully intact, while the original decorative lace-paper lining is present but heavily degraded and torn due to natural aging.

This casket represents a significant historical document of late Victorian textile craft, highly appealing to collectors of antique boudoir ephemera and early textile art.
