An antique Victorian glass scent or lachrymatory (tear) bottle, complete with its original cylindrical paperboard case decorated with marbled paper. This small-scale item represents the highly detailed craftsmanship of the mid-to-late 19th century and retains its original ground-glass stopper.

Historically, such miniature vials were used both as portable scent bottles (scent flacons) and, according to popular Victorian lore, as tear catchers (lachrymatories) associated with mourning customs. These items were designed to be carried in a pocket or purse, protected by custom-fitted cases.
