An authentic vintage Spanish folding hand fan, hand-painted and signed by the renowned master artisan V. Martí. This exceptional collector's piece features a frame crafted from genuine certified ebony wood (ébano) and is secured with an 18-karat (750) gold pivot (clavo de oro de primera ley) crafted by the Spanish jeweler S. Yagüe, complete with its original black tassel and paper tags.
The fan represents the high point of mid-to-late 20th-century Spanish fan-making (abaniquería), a craft deeply rooted in the Valencia region. The textile leaf serves as a canvas for a meticulously detailed, hand-painted scene depicting white herons in flight over water and reeds, executed with remarkable precision and delicate tonal transitions typical of V. Martí's atelier. The incorporation of precious ebony wood and an 18K gold pivot underscores the luxurious nature of this artisanal commission.
Features and details:
- Period: 1970s
- Technique / Style: Hand-painted watercolor and gouache on textile; traditional hand-carved and polished ebony woodwork
- Size: Height (length closed): 29 cm (11.4 inches); open width: approximately 54 cm (21.3 inches)
