Spanish Wood and Paper Folding Fan, Goya La Merienda Picnic Scene, Vintage Mid Century Hand Fan, Traditional Collectible Wall Decor

A mid-20th century Spanish folding hand fan featuring a printed paper leaf on wood ribs. The front is decorated with a detailed color lithograph depicting Francisco de Goya’s iconic 1776 tapestry cartoon, 'La merienda a orillas del Manzanares' (The Picnic on the Banks of the Manzanares). The reverse remains unadorned, showcasing the clean white paper backing on natural wooden sticks.

Francisco de Goya's original painting was part of a series of tapestry cartoons commissioned for the dining room of the Princes of Asturias at the El Pardo Palace. This mid-century fan represents the enduring tradition of Spanish fan making (abanico), celebrating Madrid's classical costumbrismo and majismo culture.
