Antique vanity box made of white ceramic with transfer decoration and gilded trim. This type of container was an integral part of Victorian washing sets.

Object History: During the 19th century, before the widespread availability of running water, personal hygiene sets included specific pieces for each function. This oblong box was originally intended to protect toothbrushes on the washstand.
