Anthropomorphic sculpture representing a seated figure with a rattle, executed in the style of the Nayarit culture of Western Mexico. This piece is a mid-20th-century artisanal replica, faithfully reproducing the forms and proportions of shaft tomb funerary statuary.

Object History: The Nayarit culture flourished between 300 BC and 400 AD in what are now the states of Nayarit and Jalisco. Their ceramic figures are famous for their expressiveness and for documenting ritual and daily life. During the 1960s, a significant market for high-quality replicas emerged for collectors, using traditional modeling and natural pigmentation techniques.
