A decorative ceramic plate produced by the Sarreguemines manufactory. The mark on the back, depicting the coat of arms of Lorraine under a mural crown and the inscription "Made in Germany", allows the base piece to be dated to the period between 1894 and 1919, when the region was under German administration.

The painting that adorns the surface, a portrait of a putto with a dove, is not original to the factory and was added at a later date. This type of intervention was common in domestic settings or amateur decoration workshops.
