We present an exceptional example of the Anker-Steinbaukasten construction system, model No. 6 1/2, manufactured by F. Ad. Richter and Cie in Rudolstadt, Germany. This system, based on the original designs of the Lilienthal brothers, represents one of the most important milestones in the history of educational toys from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
History of the object: Richter's factory began production in 1880, using a patented mixture of natural materials. It is historically relevant to mention that figures such as Albert Einstein and Max Born attributed the development of their spatial visualization capabilities to the use of these blocks during their childhood. Set No. 6 1/2 is an expanded set that allowed for the creation of complex architectural structures.
Technical Details: - Period: Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century. - Technique: Pressure-molded artificial stone. - Box Dimensions: 35 cm x 24 cm x 5 cm (13.8 x 9.4 x 1.9 inches approx.). - Material: Quartz sand, chalk, linseed oil, and mineral pigments. - Condition: The set is in remarkable condition for its age. It includes the original wooden box with a lithographed lid, multiple instruction manuals (Bauvorlagen), and the block layout sheet. The blocks show minimal natural patina and retain their sharp edges.
